Well, whenever we think of modern world, a series of pictures and thoughts hover in our minds. Thoughts such as trend, gadgets, science, big buildings and stylish cars, etc., are few most common, that strikes the mind hard. Trends, some call it fashion, I call it an option. To remain trendy, has become the first and foremost work of us. After getting up from bed to going into the bed, we try to keep ourselves trendy in many ways and in all ways. Now, the question arises here, Are we forgetting something because of the lust of, being in trend? Yes, we are on the way of forgetting our biggest assets, i.e., our own identity. Now you will think, how? Well, how many of us like to hear songs, see movies, talk with near and dear ones in our own language? Own language here means the Mother Language. So, are we forgetting our 'Mother'?
Yes, we are. We have adopted trend and are selling out our 'mother', our asset, our identity. Now how many of us consider the mother language as an 'Asset' or an 'Identity'? I hope none of us. I want to ask everyone,

2. What was the first language you spoke after birth?
3. After getting depressed, which linguistic people you like to be with?
4. If you are asked to abuse your biggest enemy in just 5 minutes, which language will you prefer to abuse him with?
I hope, in answering, the above questions, you might have had some, so called, realization. Yes, that is why, own language is portraited everywhere as 'mother language', an 'asset' and an 'identity', but we never understand them. People in the modern days are going towards getting westernized. They hear western songs, they like western bands, western movies, etc., and the most important of all is, they opt to talk in western languages which they think as a sign of being 'trendy'. This mind-set has hurt, the so called, our own identity, in many ways, but instead of blaming ourselves, we blame the globalization, for it.
How mother language is an asset? Asset has the dictionary meaning of the strength. Whenever we go to some unknown places and talk to the people of those places in their languages, it is described as our ability but when they ask about us, our places and our languages, that is our identity, our strength. We are known with the identity we belong to. Now a days, people feel shame to talk in their local or mother tongue, when they are with their own people in some other places, just because they think its un-trendy. Here lies the answer, why i considered, 'trend' as an 'option'. We think, talking in vernacular languages are un-trendy but its not true, we have opted to take other language as the medium of conversation and we feel proud of it. This is because we want to portrait ourselves as the most updated person in the group, area or place. Do you think talking with our near and dear ones or people hailing from our own land, with our own language is a matter of being ashamed of?
Our languages are our mother, our identity, our asset, this is our strength, we must possess and we must keep and we must not loose just because of the fear of getting out of trend. Trend is an option. We think ourselves as being out of trend and try to do things which makes us feel updated. Yes, just to make us 'feel' updated. We must respect our own language like we do to our parents and keep learning other languages, as it is an ability, but not in the cost of our mother language.
